The carpet was carefully stretched back into place, and drying equipment was strategically positioned underneath and around the carpet to maximize airflow and accelerate moisture removal. Areas were also treated with an antimicrobial solution to help address contamination concerns. Because the homeowner was elderly, an additional Velo air scrubber was placed in the bedroom to improve indoor air quality throughout the mitigation process. Professional drying and moisture monitoring are essential when dealing with suspected slab leaks, as water often travels beneath flooring and behind walls before visible damage becomes apparent.

May 21, 2026 | Addis, LA

During the inspection in Addis, the carpeted flooring appeared dry on the surface, but infrared imaging revealed elevated moisture levels inside the sheetrock walls, especially along sections where the drywall was in direct contact with the floor. Moisture readings confirmed that water had wicked approximately 11 inches above the baseboards in several areas. Other wall sections that were elevated above the framing allowed airflow beneath them and showed less moisture impact. Our team recommended a 1-foot by 15-foot flood cut to remove the affected sheetrock and properly dry the wall cavity, reducing the risk of trapped moisture, structural damage, and mold growth.

The property owner declined the recommended flood cut and chose instead to continue drying efforts by repositioning dehumidifiers and air movers to target the affected wall areas. Our technicians adjusted the drying equipment to maximize airflow and improve moisture removal throughout the office space. A follow-up visit was scheduled to monitor moisture levels and reassess conditions to ensure the drying process continued effectively. United Fire & Water proudly provides commercial water damage restoration, water extraction, structural drying, and emergency mitigation services in Addis and throughout the surrounding Greater Baton Rouge area.
