Clean Ducts
Should I have my air ducts cleaned after a catastrophic event like a flood or a fire? We get this question a lot here at United Fire and Water, and for us, the answer is a resounding “YES.”
Clean ducts mean cleaner air. If your air ducts have been cycling moldy, dirty, smokey or otherwise contaminated air through your vents, you are running the risk of spreading contamination and odor even further throughout your home or business.
Do I Really Need It?
You may be uncertain as to whether or not you actually need to have your ducts cleaned. Think of air ducts as the lungs of your home. They breathe in and out…and what they breathe in and out, YOU breathe in and out. Once air ducts become contaminated with excessive dirt, dust, debris and mold, the occupants of your home are being exposed to that air circulating through the house every time the HVAC sytem kicks on.
In fact, when it comes to mold, the Environment Protection Agency recommends a professional duct cleaning.
You should consider having the air ducts in your home cleaned if:
There is substantial mold growth inside hard surface (e.g., sheet metal) ducts or on other components of your heating and cooling system.
