Completion date: October 24, 2023
Location: Baton Rouge, LA
Why did the customer contact us?
A residential property in Baton Rouge, LA experienced significant water damage after a sewer backup affected two bathrooms and the master bedroom. Because the water was categorized as contaminated, immediate mitigation was necessary to protect the home, prevent additional damage, and prepare the affected areas for restoration. The homeowner promptly filed a claim with their insurance provider, and our team responded quickly to begin emergency services.
Solutions provided:
On the first day of the project, United Fire & Water Damage extracted standing water from the affected areas and strategically placed professional drying equipment to begin the structural drying process. A comprehensive inspection identified elevated moisture levels throughout both bathrooms and the master bedroom. Our restoration specialists developed a detailed mitigation plan and submitted a project scope report to the insurance adjuster for approval before beginning demolition. The recommended scope included removing the affected carpet in the master bedroom, detaching both bathroom vanities, and performing one-foot flood cuts around the perimeter of each bathroom to remove contaminated sheetrock and expose hidden moisture. Following approval, the remaining building materials were dried to IICRC-approved standards using commercial-grade drying equipment. All affected areas were thoroughly cleaned and sanitized to address contamination associated with the sewer backup and create a safe environment for the homeowners. Once mitigation was complete, the property was prepared for repairs and reconstruction. Prompt response, professional drying, and proper sanitation are essential following sewer backups to reduce health risks, minimize long-term damage, and restore the home safely and efficiently.
